You no longer need to rely on subjective judgments or published test results. Now you can accurately measure the key image quality factors by photographing or scanning inexpensive, widely available targets and analyzing the results with Imatest.
* Digital cameras (or scanned film): Measure sharpness (MTF), color accuracy, noise, dynamic range, tonal response, lens distortion, lens vignetting, and sensor nonuniformity with SFR, Colorcheck, Stepchart, Distortion, and Light Falloff.
* Printers: Measure tonal response, Dmax (the deepest printable black tone), color response, and color gamut with Print Test.
Imatest operates under Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, 2003, or XP, and on Macintosh systems with Virtual PC 6 or 7. Minimum RAM is 256 MB (512+ MB recommended); minimum screen size is 1024x768.
